9 St Thomas Street, London SE1

The handsome main and 8th century archway surrounding the doorway and into what was Foster Hall replaced ironwork gates, in the 19th century. This has Doric pilasters and carved scroll brackets supporting a cornice and broken segmental pediment above. A representation now forms the Company logo.

The main beams are huge ships timbers with a noticeable curvature - a reminder of the days when Oak was reserved for maritime use and building contractors queued at Tilbury and in the Pool of London to bid for the wood from dismantled captured enemy men of war.
